About us

It started with a
missed permission slip

One Tuesday morning, a class filed onto the excursion bus and one kid stayed behind at the office. The permission slip had been in the school bag for two weeks, under the canteen menu. Nobody dropped the ball. The ball was just one of forty in the air. That's the morning Joey started.

The problem we care about

The mental load is real work. It's just invisible.

In most families, one person is the primary parent: the one who tracks the term dates, the kinder newsletters, the carnival notes, the gold coins, the excursion payments, the library days. It's held across a school portal, an inbox, three class group chats and their own memory, with a low hum of dread that something is slipping.

The cost is the guilt when something slips, and the exhaustion of never being able to put it down.

An app doesn't fix parenting and shouldn't try. But the tracking, the remembering and the deadline-watching are exactly the work a machine should carry, so the humans can just be at the parade.

Why "Joey"?

A pouch for everything you're carrying

A joey rides in the pouch: safe, close, carried. That's the deal Joey offers your family's logistics. Hand them over and they're held. Not floating in an inbox, not buried in a group chat, not resting on one exhausted memory. Carried.

And like its namesake, Joey is Australian to the bone. It thinks in terms and weeks, knows a sausage sizzle from a bake sale, and keeps every byte of your family's data on Australian soil.

What we believe

The convictions Joey is built on

๐Ÿคซ Invisible beats impressive

A good assistant gets quieter over time. You stop noticing Joey because things stop slipping. We optimise for quiet reliability over flashy demos.

๐Ÿ” Less access is a feature

We could ask for your inbox and your chats and feel more magical. We won't. An assistant for your children's lives should see the minimum, keep it onshore, and delete on command.

๐Ÿงญ Stay in our lane

Joey does school and family logistics. Not your work calendar, not your bank, not a chatbot. Narrow scope is why it's excellent, and why you can trust exactly what it touches.

โš–๏ธ Both parents, one load

Joey is household-first by design. Briefings and reminders go to every adult, so the tracking work is finally visible, and finally shared.

Who we are

Parents and engineers, in that order

Joey is built in Australia by a small team of parents, engineers and designers who have personally sprinted to the shops for a last-minute costume at 8:15am. We've built consumer products and safety-critical systems; now we're pointing that experience at the school bag.

We're small, focused and Australian, on purpose. If Joey saves your family one dropped ball a term, we're doing our job.
